Dynamic, powerful, cleansing, uplifting, and precise
Ashtanga Yoga is one of the most dynamic forms of yoga. The practice links breath and movement in a set sequence of postures, creating heat, strength, and focus. It is both physically demanding and deeply rewarding. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, Ashtanga invites you to build stamina, develop discipline, and discover clarity through movement. AshtangaYoga is not something you “just do once in a while.” It is a refined method that unfolds through consistent practice. With time, the sequence becomes a moving meditation. From the foundational Primary Series to the more advanced sequences, Ashtanga continues to challenge and inspire, offering new layers of growth at every stage. Many practitioners find it becomes a lifelong path.
How do classes work?
At Antwerp Yoga we offer Ashtanga in different formats, so you can step in at your own level and experience both challenge and support along the way.
Ashtanga Mysore Style - All levels
In Mysore Style you practice at your own pace within set class hours. You arrive, roll out your mat, and the teacher guides you individually. Beginners learn the sequence step by step, while advanced students receive precise support to refine their practice. It feels like a private lesson in a group setting. Mysore is the traditional way Ashtanga is taught and is the best place to start if you want to build a steady, personal practice.
Ashtanga Basic -Level 1/beginners
This short but complete class focuses on the foundations of Ashtanga. You learn the Sun Salutations and the first fundamental postures of the Primary Series, with clear explanations, breathing guidance, and accessible variations. Perfect for newcomers or anyone wanting to refresh their basics.
Ashtanga Yoga - Level 1-2
n this class we move through about half of the Primary Series: two types of Sun Salutations, the full set of standing poses, and the beginning of the seated sequence. Adjustments and modifications are offered so you can progress safely. This class is the stepping stone towards the Full Primary Series.
Ashtanga Full Primary Series - Level 2-3
The led class of the complete Primary Series is guided at a steady rhythm. The teacher calls out the postures in Sanskrit and sets the pace of breath and movement, allowing you to dive deep into the flow of the practice. This class is ideal for students with an established Mysore or regular Ashtanga practice. It builds stamina, precision, and concentration.
Is Ashtanga for me?
Ashtanga is a great fit if you enjoy physical movement and challenge. It makes the body strong, flexible, and resilient, while cultivating inner focus and calm. The practice is intense, but not competitive—you always move at the pace of your breath and practice at your own level. Beginners are welcome in both Basic and Mysore classes. With regular practice, you’ll notice both physical and mental transformation.
Which class should I start with?
If you are new to Ashtanga, start with Ashtanga Basic or Mysore Style. You don’t need any prior yoga experience, just the curiosity and the willingness to try.
