With Andréa Drottholm, Level 2 Authorised Ashtanga Teacher
Join Andréa Drottholm for two immersive days exploring alignment, individual anatomy and support within the Ashtanga practice. Through movement, breath, detailed explanations and optional hands-on guidance, you will learn to better understand your own body and discover how each posture can work for you. Open to practitioners of different levels.
No two bodies are the same, and our yoga practice should reflect that.
During this weekend, Andréa will guide you through standing, seated and finishing postures from the Ashtanga system, looking closely at how we position ourselves within each āsana and how the practice can be adapted to the individual body.
Rather than trying to fit yourself into an external idea of a posture, you will explore where you can find support, stability and space within your own structure. Small changes in weight distribution, position, breath or direction of movement can sometimes completely change the way a posture feels.
Hands-on guidance will be offered as a way for you to experience these possibilities directly in your own body. Adjustments and assists are always optional and offered with consent. The purpose is not to push you further into a pose, but to help you understand how a posture may better serve your body and your practice.
Physical alignment is only one part of the exploration. Breath and dṛṣṭi also play an important role in how we experience the practice. As you become more familiar with the postures, you can begin to notice where you are holding unnecessary tension, where you need more support and how the breath can help create greater steadiness.
The intention is to develop a practice that is intelligent, supportive and sustainable over time.
10:00–12:30
We begin with a short practice before moving into a detailed exploration of the standing sequence.
Andréa will break down the postures and look at alignment, weight distribution, stability and possible modifications. There will be time to experience individual guidance, observe demonstrations and ask questions.
12:30–13:30 | Lunch Break
13:30–16:30
We continue our exploration of the standing postures, giving more time to individual questions and different ways of approaching the poses.
The day closes with mantra and Yoga Sūtra chanting, bringing attention back towards breath, sound and stillness.
10:00–12:30
After a short warm-up practice, we turn towards the seated and finishing postures of the Ashtanga sequence.
We will explore alignment, individual variations and ways of working with the body rather than against it. Optional hands-on guidance will allow you to experience subtle changes within the postures and better understand what creates greater stability or ease.
12:30–13:30 | Lunch Break
13:30–16:30
The afternoon continues with the seated and finishing sequence, with time for questions and individual exploration.
We close the weekend together with mantra and Yoga Sūtra chanting.
Chanting has a long place within the yoga tradition and forms a second thread throughout this weekend.
Through the repetition of Sanskrit mantra and passages from the Yoga Sūtras, we work with sound, breath and concentration. Chanting can help gather the mind and bring another quality of focus to the practice.
No previous experience with chanting is needed. You are simply invited to listen, participate and experience it for yourself.
By the end of the weekend, the intention is not that you have found one “correct” version of every posture, but that you understand your own practice a little better: how you move, how you breathe, where you need support and where perhaps you can soften.
See you on the mat for your urban exhale...
