This is one of the most common questions we hear as a team member of Antwerp Yoga. The simple answer: yes, yoga is for you. Flexibility is not a requirement to begin; it’s something that develops naturally through practice. In fact, if you feel stiff or tight, yoga might be exactly what your body needs. Every time you step onto the mat, you give your body the chance to become more open, strong, and balanced. Progress often comes quicker than you expect and that brings both confidence and joy.
We offer several entry points so you can begin in a way that suits your body and your schedule. All of the classes below are beginner-friendly.
- Ashtanga Mysore Style (self-paced):
A traditional, coached format where you learn the sequence step by step at your own pace. The teacher gives individual guidance and hands-on options, so beginners and experienced students practice side by side safely.
- Ashtanga Basic:
Foundations of the Ashtanga method: breath, simple counts, sun salutations, and essential standing postures with clear modifications. A steady place to build strength and confidence.
- Vinyasa Basic:
A slower, technique-focused flow that links breath and movement without rushing. Expect clear cues, alignment tips, and options for every body.
- Morning Vinyasa (weekdays):
All weekday morning Vinyasa classes are suitable for beginners. You’ll move, breathe, and build heat with approachable sequences and plenty of variations.
- Yin Yoga:
Floor-based, longer-held shapes to nurture mobility and calm the nervous system. Excellent if you feel stiff or need a gentler entry into practice.
- Somatic Yin:
Slow, exploratory movement and subtle holds to improve awareness and ease. Great for sensitive bodies, recovery, and stress regulation.
- Easy Flow:
A gentle, breath-led class with simple sequences and clear options; ideal for beginners or anyone wanting a supportive practice that builds strength and mobility without rushing.
How to choose
Start with 1–3 classes per week. Many beginners enjoy one or two flow classes (Ashtanga or Vinyasa) plus one Yin or Somatic Yin for balance. You’ll often find Yin scheduled right after a dynamic class, perfect for a gentle “flow + yin” double if your energy allows. With our Unlimited Passes, you can mix and match as many classes as you like. And please tell your teacher about any injuries before class, we’ll offer safe variations and alternatives.
There’s no one answer, it just depends on what you’re looking for. At AntwerpYoga, many of us practice daily because yoga has become a way of life. But for you, the right amount might look different.
As a general guideline, practicing two to three times per week can bring noticeable and lasting change. But don’t be discouraged if your schedule doesn’t allow for that. Even once a week can make a difference. The most important thing is to begin and to stay consistent in a way that feels sustainable for you.
Yoga is not a quick fix but a practice that unfolds over time. The more often you come to the mat, the more you feel the benefits: strength, energy, calm, and clarity. Little by little, yoga weaves itself into your daily life. What starts as a weekly class often grows into something you look forward to, and eventually something you don’t want to miss.
At AntwerpYoga, we see this happen again and again; students who start out uncertain, only to discover that yoga becomes a source of stability and joy. All it takes is that first step: unroll your mat and begin.
