At Antwerp Yoga, we know how tempting it can be to keep pressing pause after your holiday has ended. I’ve seen it every year: some students are back in class the day after their plane lands, while for others, it takes weeks, or even months, to return.
I always take my yoga mat with me on vacation. Always. But I have to admit, this year was the first time it didn’t even leave my suitcase in the first week. And you know what? That’s okay. Vacations are there to rest, reset, and step out of routine. But I also noticed something else: the longer I waited to unroll my mat again, the more resistance I felt. Not physical resistance, but mental. Subtle thoughts like "Tomorrow is fine," or "Maybe next week," began creeping in.
We know this feeling well, it’s called avoidance. And avoidance feels good in the short term because it gives you temporary relief. But over time, it creates more stress, more disconnection, and more self-doubt.
The return to practice doesn’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to feel strong or flexible or focused. You just need to begin again.
- Momentum Builds Confidence: The hardest part is often just showing up. Once you're back in the studio, the rhythm comes naturally. Your body remembers. Your breath finds its flow.
- Avoidance Becomes a Habit: The longer you stay away, the easier it becomes to keep avoiding. But the moment you step into the studio, that spell breaks.
- Community Helps You Ground: Practicing in the shala with others has a quiet power. You’re reminded you’re not alone. We move and breathe together, and that shared space makes returning so much easier.
- Your Nervous System Needs It: Vacations offer rest, yes, but the nervous system thrives on rhythm and care. Returning to your practice gives you both.
Your return doesn’t have to feel flawless, it just has to happen. Come as often as you can. Rebuild your rhythm. The sooner you step into the shala, the more naturally the flow returns. Not just for your body, but for your clarity, focus, and overall sense of well-being.
We've seen it again and again her at Antwerp Yoga: showing up regularly, even when you don’t feel 100% ready, brings back that spark faster than you think. And the more often you're in the space, the more the benefits settle into daily life. I think you know what I'm talking about.
We’re here. The studio is open. Your mat is waiting.
Come back. You’ll be glad you did.
See you on the mat!
Namas-té,
Ine
