Join us for an enlightening workshop designed for anyone eager to delve deeper into the Ashtanga system, with a special focus on the Primary Series asanas. Ideal for practitioners with at least two months of Ashtanga experience, this workshop promises to enrich your practice and understanding of this dynamic yoga style.
What you will learn:
1. A Theoretical Foundation
This workshop kicks off with an engaging theoretical session, where we'll explore the essence of Ashtanga Yoga. Learn about the foundational principles, general guidelines, and rules that shape our practice, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of the asanas.
2. Theory Meets Action
Transitioning from theory to practice, we will meticulously examine the poses comprising the full Primary Series. This hands-on segment not only breaks down each pose for better understanding but also integrates them into practice. Discover the significance behind the names of the poses, immerse yourself in the vinyasa system, and learn techniques to enhance the fluidity of your practice. Special attention will be dedicated to mastering transitions, such as the art of jumping forward and backward in both standing and seated postures.
This workshop is a unique opportunity to deepen your Ashtanga practice, under the guidance of experienced practitioners, in a supportive and inspirational environment. Embrace the chance to refine your technique, gain profound insights, and connect with fellow Ashtanga enthusiasts.
Your Teacher
From a young age, Bart has been passionate about movement. He engaged in athletics and aikido for several years and played water polo from age 7 to 31, even competing in the national first division. He also pursued triathlon for several years and has been cycling all his life.
His fascination with the human body influenced his choice of study, leading him to pursue biomedical sciences at the University of Antwerp. At 24, Bart discovered Ashtanga yoga, which instantly captivated him. The integration of mind and body offered him a new perspective. A year later, he found joy in sharing his knowledge and experience when he was asked to substitute a class, leading him to continue teaching. Over the years, he has studied with Anthony (Prem) Carlisi and Patthabi Jois. Nancy Gilgoff, one of Patthabi Jois's first students, taught him about adjustments, providing him with the tools to assist students in enhancing their poses.
Bart has been a cornerstone of our shala, teaching from the very first day at Antwerp Yoga and being involved in its founding.
His passion and knowledge about the human body and assisting others continue to grow. In recent years, he has also offered Thai oil massages, Swedish and sports massages, cupping-vacussage, trigger point massage, and medical taping in our studio.
See you on the mat!
