Authentic Relating Games Night #1: Curiosity
Authentic Relating is a set of principles and practices designed to cultivate trustable, empowering and nourishing connections with everyone in your life. At its core, AR is making the implicit explicit, the hidden revealed, and the unconscious conscious. It is an embodied practice, a way of being, not of thinking.
The 5 Practices of AR:
When we welcome ourselves and our experience we can learn to welcome others as
they are, without fixing them, changing them, judging them, pushing themaway or
guarding against them.
It’s almost impossible not to assume. We do it as a way to create predictable
environments, because it is easier to assume than to take the time andenergy to
make contact with reality as it is. Some assumptions are right, but many are wrong,
and they get us into trouble.
Reveal Your Experience
Revealing ourselves is a way of being seen and known for who we are and of inviting
others into our world. It is a willingness to come out of hiding, to take the mask off,
to let the guard down, and be vulnerable and available for human connection.
Own Your Experience
When we make other people and circumstances the source of our experience, we
give our power away. Owning your experience, finding the source of it inside of
yourself, gives you power back. It is an invitation to knowing your self as deeply and
fully as possible.
Honor Self and Other
To build and to keep nourishing relationships often have to do with the dignity of
acting in a way that supports your needs, and with the humility of acting in a way
that supports the needs of others.
In this AR Games Night we explore the topic of curiosity.
All exercises are designed to deepen our understanding of this immensely valuable fuel for human connection. Using it as a compass, we tune in with ourselves, find what makes our eyes sparkle and use it to create inspiring conversations with both strangers and long-term partners. Getting curious in the context of AR is a process of reclaiming the innocent, childlike state of fascination for whatever our awareness perceives, and exploring it for our own joy and fulfillment. It transcends our mental models and brings us back into contact with vibrancy and aliveness.
We start and end this AR Games Night in the big circle. It is a space in which we see and feel the group as a whole and in which shares of others might be exactly what you needed to hear in that moment. In between that you will be guided into practices with other individuals where you explore the potency of genuine, heart-felt connection fueled by curiosity.
There is no previous knowledge of this modality needed to attend. It’s a fun, yet profound way to get more creative when connecting with others and to tune in deeper with yourself.
